Antique Rose Cut Diamonds

Dating back to the 1500s, rose cut diamonds are considered one of the oldest diamond shapes in the world. Made popular in the Georgian Era (circa 1700s) when diamonds were still measured and cut by hand, this antique cut has re-emerged as an ethereal alternative to the traditional brilliant cut. Rose cut diamonds have a domed top covered in distinctive triangle facets cut to resemble a rose and a flat underside without facets allowing the diamond to reflect light. Rose cut diamonds have a transparent appearance with a romantic, warm glow.

Traditional Brilliant-Cut vs Rose-Cut

In comparison to round brilliant cut diamonds, rose cut diamonds exude a subtle lustre, with fewer facets that sparkle under candlelight, reminiscent of the Georgian Era. The faceted rose pattern on these diamonds can vary in complexity; simple rose cut diamonds can have as few as 3 facets, while others may have as many as 24 compared to the 58-facet cutting style of round brilliant cut diamonds. Rose cut diamonds also appear larger than traditional round brilliant cut diamonds as all the carat weight sits face-up in the top of the stone, and a flat underside allows the stone to be set lower to the finger. Rose cut diamonds are more affordable than traditional round brilliant cuts of the same carat weight and quality, making these diamonds an attractive option for those looking for larger diamonds with a unique look and romantic feel.
