FAQs

FAQs about custom engagement rings in South Africa

How much does a custom engagement ring cost in South Africa?

Custom-made engagement rings don’t need to be more expensive. The cost varies based on factors like the choice of gemstone, metal, and design complexity. We’re wizards at maximising a budget and, with over 17 years of experience we’re able to suggest suitable alternatives where necessary to suit your budget.

The timeline typically ranges from 3 to 6 weeks, depending on the availability of your preferred gemstone and design complexity. You’ll enjoy regular updates as your ring moves through the crafting process. By arrangement and where possible we can expedite simple designs.

While natural diamonds remain a classic choice and a great purchase at current prices, Laboratory-Grown Diamonds offer more affordable prices for large stones. Sapphires remain the top choice for coloured gemstones in engagement rings for their range of colour and durability.

Yes, lab-grown diamonds have gained popularity in South Africa and we offer them as an affordable alternative for clients looking for large white stones. We select stones with excellent cut grades, no fluorescence and no BGM (brown or green shade/tinge, cloudy or milkiness. Our Laboratory-Grown diamonds are certified by the globally recognised International Gemological Institute.

Common metals include:

Platinum: Naturally white, hardwearing and hypoallergenic. Platinum is currently a more affordable alternative to 18k white gold.

18k Gold: Durable and well-suited for use in engagement rings that are worn daily. 18k gold is available in white, yellow and rose gold. With a higher fine gold content at 75% we recommend choosing 18k gold for its value when the budget allows.

9k Gold: Durable and well-suited for use in engagement rings that are worn daily. 9k gold is available in white, yellow and rose gold. With a fine gold content at 35% we recommend choosing 9k gold for smaller budgets.

White Gold: Cool and contemporary appearance, best suited for cool or neutral skin tones. White gold requires periodic rhodium plating. Our white gold alloy is nickel-free.

Yellow Gold: Centuries later yellow gold is still seen as a timeless and elegant option. Suited to neutral and warm skin tones, yellow gold requires less maintenance compared to white gold.

Rose Gold: No longer just a trend, romantic rose gold looks beautiful on all skin tones. Our rose gold has been specifically alloyed with the perfect amount of copper ensuring our rose gold is the perfect ‘rosy’ hue. Rose gold requires less maintenance compared to white gold.

We offer our clients a curated selection of natural gemstones and diamonds. Our internal selection criteria goes far beyond the standard 4’c’s of grading. You can be confident we’ve done the hard work for you sorting through the various stones available within our network of trusted suppliers to find the very best gemstone or diamond for your budget.

Rest assured we don’t supply our own certificates, our natural gemstones and diamonds are accompanied by certificates from recognised grading laboratories e.g. GIA, EGL, IGI & Gem Lab.
